SWISS announced it is adopting a new seating concept for its intercontinental Business Class cabins. The new seats will be gradually installed throughout the SWISS long-haul fleet from early 2009 onwards, offering Business travellers a 'bed above the clouds' which will be fully reclinable and 2 m long, with an air-cushion feature that can be adjusted to individual needs.
The new seats will also offer a high degree of privacy and mobility within the cabin. Most of the seats will have direct aisle access, putting every traveller next to an aisle for loadings of up to 90%. The new Airbus A330-300s, which will join the fleet from 2009 onwards, will all feature the new seats, as will the Airbus A340s, the biggest aircraft in the SWISS fleet. Under the current schedule, one-third of the SWISS long-haul fleet should be fitted with the new Business cabin in 2009. A large proportion of the fleet will be refurbished in 2010; and all Business customers should be enjoying the in-flight seating and sleeping experience on long-haul flights by 2011. © Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation.
