EADS states Airbus orders likely to slow as airlines are faced with soaring fuel costs
EADS CEO, Louis Gallois, stated Airbus orders were likely to slow as airlines faced difficulties arising from soaring fuel costs (Economic Times, 26-May-08). Mr Gallois also confirmed the latest delays to the A380 project would be “three to five months”. However, he stressed that although production is “not going fast enough”, the company is “not faced with the same catastrophe we faced two years ago". Earlier this month, Airbus confirmed the A380 had encountered further problems with its delivery schedule. Airbus plans to deliver 12 of the aircraft in 2008 (instead of 13), and 21 in 2009 (instead of 25). Airbus CEO, Thomas Enders, stated at the time that it could produce and deliver "between 30 and 40" A380s in 2010, a reduction from the originally planned 45.
