Lufthansa CityLineLufthansa Systems has successfully implemented the flight operations module of the content and document management platform Clouds at Lufthansa CityLine. Due to this extension, the system offers an authoring environment for the flight operations documentation. The regional airline thus can enhance the quality of the flight operations documents and reduce time and costs while providing current data.

For Lufthansa CityLine, the IT provider already designed and developed the first generation of the platform based on EMC Documentum which enables an optimal administration, distribution and archiving of technical and commercial documents. The platform now comprises a new authoring and editing system to compile, edit and publish flight operations manuals. Thus the strategy, developed by CityLine with the support of Lufthansa Systems, to deploy a central system for all document management functions (production, distribution and archiving) has proven successful. After the implementation, Lufthansa Systems will also provide maintenance and support services and will further develop the platform for Lufthansa CityLine.

By using EFOM (Electronic Flight Operations Manual), Lufthansa Systems’ document management solution for flight operations, the quality of the flight operations documentation, e.g. flight operations permission for aircraft and operations manuals for particular aircraft types, increase considerably. The system generates from the central XML-database printed manuals as well as electronic ones for the pilots’ Electronic Flight Bags on board. Therefore, the manual formatting and the redundant data maintenance become no longer necessary. Moreover, the newly designed and workflow-based approval procedures shorten processing time and increase the processes transparency toward the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, the German Civil Aviation Authority.
