(XFN-ASIA) Air Berlin PLC said its loss in first quarter EBIT adjusted for seasonal factors was reduced to 67.7 million euros from 85.0 million as sales rose four percent to 654.5 million.

-It said earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization and leasing expenses (EBITDAR) increased from 17.3 million euros to 41.2 million.

-Net loss narrowed from 66.4 million euros to 59 million euros.

-For the remainder of 2008, the company has embarked on a stringent price and cost optimization programme.

-Due to the difficult market condition, particularly the high kerosine prices, it expects its operating result to be negatively affected in the course of the year.

-It has worked out a comprehensive package of measures to help adapt to the changed market conditions, which includes capacity adjustments and the elimination of unprofitable flight routes.

-For the whole 2008, it continues to expect a "positive operating result".
