(XFN Asia) Emirates' area manager for Austria and Eastern Europe, Martin Gross, stated that Emirates is not interested in purchasing Austrian Airlines AG, “our strategy to date has been to not join an alliance and to not have any shareholdings [in other carriers]. These guidelines have not changed. We will not buy Austrian Airlines.” Meanwhile, Air France-KLM is reportedly interested in Austrian Airlines.

Gross said Emirates is however open to cooperating with the Austrian flag carrier, particularly with regard to encouraging greater use of the two airlines' respective hubs in Vienna and Dubai.

Meanwhile, Air France-KLM Deputy Chief Executive, Pierre-Henri Gourgeon, believes Austrian Airlines must take the next steps regarding a possible strategic partnership with the French-Dutch group.

Although Air France-KLM board member, Jean-Cyrill Spinetta, has stated that no talks have as yet taken place between the two carriers on this issue, however this is reportedly not true.

An Executive at the French-Dutch airline group reportedly stated that Austrian Airlines' strong route network in Eastern Europe would fit well with Air France-KLM's offerings, while the Austrian carrier would benefit from the recently launched joint venture between Air France-KLM and Delta/Northwest.

Austrian Airlines is currently conducting a review of its long-term options, including the prospects for a strategic partnership. The review's detailed recommendations are expected to be presented by the end of September.
