Lufthansa has not held talks over purchase of stake in Austrian Airlines - CEO

Austrian state holding OIAG, which owns 42.75% in Austrian Airlines, has not yet approached Lufthansa, and it is up to OIAG to make an initial assessment of a potential tie-up, the CEO said.

Mayrhuber declined to say whether Lufthansa would also consider buying a minority stake in Austrian Airlines, which is a member of the airlines group Star Alliance, led by Lufthansa.

Mayrhuber said last month, that his company would be prepared to look into acquiring Austrian Airlines should the Austrians show their interest first.

Austria's Finance Minister, Wilhelm Molterer, last week said that he views a continued independence of Austrian Airlines as "rather unlikely."
