Alitalia could reportedly separate operating units from liabilities

(XFN Asia) Alitalia SpA's advisor, Intesa Sanpaolo SpA, is working on a business plan that could involve separating the airline's operating units from its liabilities.

Alitalia had a net debt of EUR1.358 billion at the end of Apr-08.

The flight and ground services could reportedly be spun off into a newly created company that could then link up with the Italian airline, Air One.

When the tie-up is completed, the new company could launch, after the summer, with a capital increase of at least EUR1 billion euros.

The new Alitalia group could also seek a commercial alliance with an international carrier.

The group could also sell some assets such as the aircraft maintenance unit Atitech, it said.
