(XFN-ASIA) - Air France-KLM chief executive Jean-Cyril Spinetta said its first three Airbus A380s are expected to be delivered between the summer and the end of 2009, compared with previous expectations for the first delivery in Apr-09.

Speaking at the company's AGM, Spinetta noted the delayed delivery of the planes incurs penalties for the airline, and it will be demanding compensation.

Spinetta reaffirmed his intention to launch a tender by the end of the year for long-haul medium capacity aircraft, which will be either Airbus A350s or Boeing Co's 787.

"We will study what will be the best aircraft in terms of fuel consumption," he said. Deliveries are expected from 2014 to 2015, he added.

He also stated plans to halt usage of Boeing 747s for both cargo and passenger transport from 2013, to be replaced by Boeing 777-300s and 777-200s.

Faced with rising fuel prices, Spinetta said the airline is working on an additional savings plan called "Challenge 2012", without giving additional details.
