Air Berlin is developing its domestic Spanish route network even further in time for the 2008/09 winter schedule. From Jul-08 Air Berlin passengers have been able to choose from 70 Spanish domestic flights in the coming winter which represents an increase of almost 400% in comparison with the previous year.

A total of 11 cities in Spain, as well as Faro in Portugal, are now linked via the hub in Palma.

The connection to Seville, for instance, has been improved, which means that during the winter the airline will be operating two flights a day to and from the major Spanish cities of Alicante, Barcelona, Santiago de Compostela and Valencia via Palma. "These additional flights within Spain are our response to the increased demand for city breaks," commented Alvaro Middelmann, Director Air Berlin Spain & Portugal. "Our sales figures for Spain are already 30 per cent up on last year."

In 2007 Air Berlin carried around 6.4 million passengers via its hub in Palma. In the period from January to May-08 alone, 2.3 million passengers opted for Air Berlin flights available from Palma. This means that the company was able to maintain its position as the largest airline at Europe’s most important holiday airport. In total Air Berlin offers direct flights to 43 cities in seven countries from Palma.
