Ryanair confirms cancellation of scheduled flights to and from Derry Airport

Ryanair confirmed the forced cancellation of all scheduled flights to and from City of Derry Airport on 16-Jul and 17-Jul due to strike action by airport workers.

Passengers affected by these cancellations will be accommodated on Ryanair flights to/from Belfast; or they can re-schedule their flights for alternative dates free of charge or avail of a full refund.

Ryanair’s, Head of Communications, Stephen McNamara, said:

“We sincerely apologise to passengers for any disruption or inconvenience caused to them by these unnecessary and damaging strikes. At a time when oil is $140 a barrel, tourism is under pressure and Derry is losing traffic to the two Belfast airports, the last thing we need is strike action which closes the airport and encourages passengers to use Belfast City instead. Special dispensation should be granted to allow airport workers to keep Derry Airport open to serve the passengers wishing to use its service. This action does nothing to enhance Derry Airport as a viable option when compared to the region’s two major airports at Belfast.”
