(XFN-ASIA) Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said there is sufficient capital available from investors to fund the relaunch plan for Alitalia SpA, which is reportedly close to being finalised.

Reports say a plan being prepared by Intesa Sanpaolo SpA for the government foresees new investors putting up EUR800 million for the relaunch of the 49.9% state-owned airline.

Berlusconi said, "I am working on Alitalia. We have a meeting this afternoon with (Economy Minister Giulio) Tremonti and other. "We have the necessary capital and the slogan 'I love Italy, I fly Alitalia, repeating his slogan for the relaunch of the airline after capital injections by Italian investors.”

Earlier, Il Messaggero newspaper said Alitalia's board could on Saturday consider the plan, which envisages splitting the airline between profitable and loss-making activities.

Equity investors include the Clessidra fund, Rocco Sabelli, the Benetton, Ligresti, Gavio and Fossati families, plus Italian airline Air One, it said.

Alitalia and Intesa Sanpaolo were unable to comment immediately, while Air One officials said they had no comment.
