Austrian Cargo expands Vienna-Kiev connection

Austrian cargo and Ukraine International have passed another milestone in the expansion of their air cargo connection between Vienna and Kiev. A Boeing 737-300SF cargo-only aircraft put into service recently by the Ukrainian carrier begins operating the route immediately.

The companies have been cooperating on the handling of cargo-only flights since the end of 2003. The route was initially served by an Antonov 12 aircraft, with just one rotation flight a week. Due to the huge demand, the product was subsequently increased to up to 5 frequencies a week.

Franz Zoechbauer, Executive Vice President Cargo, said the following: “The Ukrainian economy is growing steadily, and with it the demand for high-value transport services. With the B737-300SF, we are now using an aircraft that enables us to implement further expansion plans together with our partner Ukraine International.”

Peter Kukharchuk, UIA Logistics and Cargo Director, said: “By significantly expanding the UIA cargo fleet, we are strengthening our transport capacities, and our product portfolio becomes more attractive still. The 737-300SF freighter is a low-kerosene, environmentally-friendly aircraft that costs less to operate and maintain compared to the Antonov 12.
