Air France-KLM reports Dec-08 traffic

In Dec-08, Air France-KLM’s traffic progressed by 1.3%, helped by the leisure segment. With capacity up by 0.9%, the load factor rose slightly to 78.9% (+0.3 points). Long haul traffic held up well, rising by 1.6%. The group carried 5.8 million passengers (+0.2%).
On the Americas network traffic rose by 4.1% with capacity up 2.9%. The load factor gained 0.9 points to 84.0%. The Asia network saw a 0.4% rise in both traffic and capacity. As a result, the load factor was stable at 82.2%.
On the Africa and Middle East network traffic increased by 2.7% and capacity by 1.6%, leading to a 0.9 point improvement in load factor to 80.0%. The Caribbean and Indian Ocean network saw a 3.7% decline in traffic with capacity down by 1.6%. The load factor declined by 1.9 points but remained at the high level of 81.7%.
On the European network traffic was stable (+0.1%) with capacity down 0.3%, leading to a 0.3 point gain in the load factor to 66.1%.
In Dec-08, a significant reduction in capacity (-6.2%) was not sufficient to offset the impact of the deepening economic crisis in many sectors and markets, leading to a 20.4% drop in cargo traffic. The cargo load factor declined by 10.6 points to 59.6%.
