Helsinki-Vantaa Airport reports rise in 2008 traffic
More than 13.4 million passengers passed through Helsinki-Vantaa airport in 2008, an increase of 2.2% compared with the previous year. The biggest increase was in international traffic. Compared with 2007, the volume of passengers travelling on international flights increased by 4.5%. However, there was a decrease in domestic passenger traffic.
There was an increase of 2.7% on international scheduled flights and 21.2% on chartered flights. Following the trend of 2007, Germany, Sweden and Great Britain retained their positions as the popular scheduled flight destinations in Europe.
 
Substantial increase in traffic to Asia
 
Traffic between Asia and Finland increased by 16.5% in 2007, exceeding the 1.48 million passenger mark during the year.
 
There were almost 1.9 million transit passengers at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport in 2008. Of this figure, a record 1,084,000 were international transit passengers, an increase of 16% on the previous year. International transit passengers to Asia increased by 18%, reaching a total of 458,000 passengers.
