VLM Airlines launched (14-Jan-09) flights between London City Airport and Eindhoven, with two services every weekday and a daily flight on Sundays. The route was previously flown by CityJet, VLM Airlines’s partner airline. VLM Airlines specialises in offering flights between the British capital and major cities in the Benelux countries, and in addition to Eindhoven, the airline offers flights from London to Amsterdam, Antwerp, Brussels, Luxembourg and Rotterdam.
Eindhoven Airport is the second largest airport in the Netherlands and welcomed 1.6 million passengers in 2008.
Johan Vanneste, Managing Director of VLM Airlines, who travelled on the inaugural flight, said: "The Netherlands is traditionally a very important market for VLM Airlines. Market studies have shown that the new route from Eindhoven will not impact on our other routes in the region.
“By departing from and flying to Eindhoven, travellers to the East of Belgium and the Netherlands are able to avoid the regular traffic jams in the regions of Antwerp, Brussels and Rotterdam, enabling them to considerably reduce their overall travel time between the centre of London and their final destination. The route is also an attractive alternative for people travelling to North Rhine-Westphalia. No high-speed train is able to compete with this convenient air link.”
The flights are operated with Fokker 50 aircraft.
