Air France announced (15-Jan-09) plans to introduce an additional flight to its weekly schedule between Amman, Jordan to Paris, France, following talks between Air France and Airport International Group (AIG) executives in Amman last week.
The eighth weekly non-stop flight will begin on 28-Feb-08 running through to the end of Jun-09, resuming again 19-Sep-09 through to 18-Oct-09. The new flight (Air France 588) will depart Paris on Saturdays at 1910, arriving into Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) at 0045. The return flight (Air France 589) will depart Amman at 0940, arriving into Charles de Gaulle Airport at 1340 Paris time.
Mr. Etienne Rachou, Vice President for Africa and Middle East, said: “Our confidence in Jordan and the broader Middle East market remains strong, prompting us to increase service to eight flights per week during the spring/summer shoulder seasons. Air France will maintain its current schedule during the winter of 2008, operating daily flights to our Paris hub, with efficient connections to our comprehensive worldwide network.”
Airport International Group (AIG) Chief Executive Officer; Curtis Grad, applauded the news of the additional flight, stating; “Air France has been serving QAIA for many years and is one of our valued “anchor” carriers. We are heartened by their vote of confidence in Jordan, as a robust and resilient market with excellent growth potential.” Mr. Grad added; “Despite the ongoing global economic woes, passenger traffic at QAIA remains strong, up by 15.6% year to date.”
The USD700 million rehabilitation and expansion works at QAIA are well underway with the new passenger terminal extending over 85,000 sqm. AIG, under the terms of a 25-year concession agreement with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is responsible for the operation of the airport, the rehabilitation of existing facilities and the construction of the new terminal.
