Ryanair called (06-Feb-09) on the DAA to explain why Dublin Airport is once again closed for operations due to the DAA Monopoly’s failure to de-ice the ramps and access routes required for fuel trucks to refuel aircraft which has resulted in delays and cancellations to many flights.
Ryanair called on the DAA monopoly to immediately treat all access routes which have been overlooked all morning despite DAA claims that the Airport was once again open for operations following yesterdays 8 hour closure due to snow. Ryanair confirmed that the failure to ensure that fuel trucks could access aircraft is yet another example of the failings of the government run monopoly and it called on the DAA to compensate passengers for today’s flight disruptions which have occurred as a direct result of their incompetence. Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said:
“Ryanair today calls on the DAA to explain why a fundamental part of its operation had been overlooked by this incompetent government monopoly. Passengers now face delays and cancellations which are as a direct result of the failure to ensure that ramps and access routes are accessible to fuel trucks. Since early morning we have had aircraft sitting on stands but have no way of refuelling them. The longer these aircraft sit on stand the more they impact on arrivals. This total shambles is the making of the DAA monopoly and call on them to compensate passengers for the costs which they now face as a result of their claims that the airport was operating normally when they failed to ensure aircraft could depart the airport”.
Ryanair has now been forced to cancel 35 flights as a result and has suffered diversions to Shannon and Cork.
Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said: “The incompetent DAA were reporting that Dublin Airport was open and operating normally and the airport is now in chaos with passengers suffering once again from the complete inability of the DAA to keep Ireland’s gateway airport open.”
