Lufthansa appoints head of new Italian unit

Lufthansa announced (11-Feb-09) Heike Birlenbach is to take over management of Milan-based Lufthansa Italia following her appointment as head of the Milan division of the Lufthansa Passenger Airlines, with effect from 01-Mar-09. Her responsibilities additionally encompass the commercial management, onboard and ground product as well as capacity management of the new carrier.
 
Lufthansa Italia commenced scheduled services ex Milan on 02-Feb-09 and has meantime begun operating several flights daily to Paris and Barcelona. In early March, it will start services to Brussels, Budapest, Bucharest and Madrid and will, subsequently, add London Heathrow and Lisbon to its flight schedules at the end of March. By then, customers of Lufthansa Italia will have a choice of eight nonstop connections in Europe from Malpensa.
