The Supervisory Board of the Lufthansa Group approved the order for 30 short-haul aircraft in its meeting on 10-Mar-09. The Bombardier CSeries Aircraft will be used by Lufthansa’s subsidiary, Swiss International Air Lines, and will be ready for the fleet as of 2014. The new aircraft will replace the existing Avro RJ100 short-haul aircraft.

The investment represents the next step in the modernization of the fleet at Swiss International Air Lines. The CSeries aircraft have approximately 115 seats. The generous space offer in the cabin provides passengers with the highest comfort. The new engine technology and lightweight materials significantly reduce fuel consumption. The CSeries should consequently allow SWISS to reduce its current fuel consumption with the Avro fleet by well over a quarter.
