The International Association of Airport Executives (IAAE) has joined forces with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to deliver a series of airport training initiatives, including an airport operations employee certification program as well as topic-specific stand-alone courses to airport employees worldwide.

IATA and IAAE are offering the International Airport Certified Employee (IACE) Operations program, which is an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 14-based airport operations course, to airport workers worldwide. The IACE program covers four topics: ICAO Aerodrome Design and Operations, Safety Management Systems, Airfield Marking and Lighting and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting.

IACE certifications can be earned in two ways: by attending a weeklong IATA/IAAE Review Course and passing a 100-question multiple-choice exam, or through self-paced self-study and completion of a proctored exam.

For the IATA/IAAE Review Course, an experienced instructor provides practical examples of the subject matter during an optional four and a half-day classroom instruction, encouraging student participation and collaboration.

There are two IATA/IAAE IACE Program Review Courses scheduled for 2009:

13 - 17-July in Geneva, Switzerland, and
07 - 11-Dec in Singapore.

Eligible candidates who choose the self-study method must make special arrangements with the IACE Program Manager for testing.

Successful completion of the IACE program entitles employees to use the IACE designation after their names, highlighting their expertise in international airport operations. IATA and IAAE also are developing a continuing education program to ensure all IACE participants stay current with the newest international airport regulations, standards and recommended practices.

IATA and IAAE also are planning a series of training courses on key topics. The first course is on International Airport Marketing, 26 - 30-Dec in Miami, Florida.

The course will help airports make better use of strategic marketing and remain competitive in the turbulent economic environment. Topics covered will include general airport marketing issues, airport marketing strategy, retail marketing and land development.
