The GBP 4.3 billion facility is currently giving customers the best travel experience they have had at Heathrow for many years. Customers have been so impressed they have given British Airways its most positive feedback scores ever, with more than 75 % of customers saying they were extremely or very satisfied with the airline. The airline is also achieving its best punctuality and baggage performance figures in almost a decade as a result of the new terminal, which opened on Mar-27-08. On many days more than 90% of flights now depart on time, and baggage retrieval is so quick that arriving customers often find their bags waiting to be collected as soon as they clear passport control. South West Pacific Regional Manager Sam Heine announced “Our new London Heathrow home at Terminal 5 is a great success and our Australian customers continue to give us great praise when they transfer through Terminal 5. “We have welcomed more than 20 million customers through the doors of Terminal 5 and handled more than 154,000 flights during its first 12 months. “Our Australian customers really love the speedy check-in, the light and spacious interiors, the lack of queues, smoother transfers and our luxurious lounges which they get to experience when transferring or connecting. “Our operations in Terminal 5 and customers’ views of the facilities are giving us a real competitive edge at the moment, which is critical in these very tough economic times which are hitting the whole aviation industry.” (c) Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation.
