He then took over as head of the aircraft flight control group in Hamburg. After that he was promoted to manager of aircraft structure and systems engineering.
Starting in 1989, he became responsible for aircraft cabins and systems as senior head of that department. In 1991 he was placed in charge of the overhaul line of the Boeing 737 fleet at the Berlin-Schoenefeld base. From November 1993 until May 1997 he has headed up the aircraft components services division at Lufthansa Technik AG in Hamburg. The company was formally founded on October 17, 1994. From August 1, 1997 he was General Manager of Ameco Beijing (Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering Corporation), a joint venture between Deutsche Lufthansa and Air China.
On 01-Apr-2000 Henningsen moved to Hamburg working as a member of Lufthansa Technik’s Executive Board. He was in charge of the newly created Product and Services division. 01-Jan-2001 he became Chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Technik AG – with more than 26,000 employees and more than 30 subsidiaries and affiliated companies one of the leading providers of maintenance, repair and overhaul services (MRO).
