Air Berlin, Germany's second-largest airline company, increased its revenue per available seat kilometer to 5.80 Eurocents (05/2008: 5.31 Eurocents), i.e. an increase of 9.3 percent. The number of passengers transported was 7.7 percent lower than in the corresponding month of the previous year, decreasing to 2,507,227 passengers (May 2008: 2,716,646), in part due to a targeted capacity reduction of 3.1 percent. Fleet capacity utilization declined by 3.8 percentage points to 77 percent.

For the first five months of 2009, Air Berlin welcomed a total of 10,142,995 passengers on board, i.e. six percent less than in the corresponding period of the previous year (2008: 10,790,381). The company's accumulated capacity decreased by three percent in comparison with the previous year. Fleetcapacity utilization decreased from 76.2 to 73.8 percent (-2.4 percentage points).
