Swissport Cargo Services, the cargo division of the world’s leading provider of ground services is now the very first Global Handling Company to provide monthly performance reports to the Cargo 2000 organization.
The reports form the first phase of full performance reporting, and relate to messaging performance. Some 56 stations are included and cover all C2K and non C2K airlines that are handled by ourselves. EVP Global Cargo, John Batten said, "I am extremely pleased. It was a very large undertaking, but one that ensures Swissport continues our drive for increased quality. This reporting now clearly sets us apart from our competitors. This is just one example of the way we are changing our business. Providing clear statistical analysis is just the starting point of a much closer working relationship with our customers, whether they are airlines, forwarders or integrators. Improving quality, service, and transparency benefits us all". Swissport joined Cargo 2000 in 1997 and has always been at the forefront of new initiatives. It is now certifying all stations to be Cargo 2000 compliant. This in turn, supports the continued roll out of e-freight around the world and ensures not only high levels of performance, but a close and productive relationship with the customer. The certification process ensures that interaction with the customer is used to improve performance and bring measurable benefits. None of this could happen however without the vital role our staff plays. Swissport Cargo Services is very proud of its people. Without real people working diligently in the warehouse and the office, supported by competent management, none of this would be possible. North America has been a recent focus and newly certified stations this year include Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami and Denver. This process is facilitated will continue globally and updates regarding the initiative will be issued periodically. Regional Director Cargo 2000 EMEA, Lothar Moehle, commented, "I am very pleased to see that by applying the Cargo 2000 Quality Management System, Swissport has been able to improve performance during recent months. This applaudable result will also help the airline customers to improve their C2K Quality Performance as well. I am fully aware that this improvement could only be achieved because the entire Swissport organisation is dedicated to service and quality. Thank you to Swissport and their employees for a job very well done". Swissport International Ltd., which is owned by Ferrovial, a leading global infrastructure and service corporation based in Spain, provides ground services for over 70 million passengers and 3.5 million tonnes of cargo a year on behalf of some 650 client companies. With its workforce of around 33 000 personnel, Swissport is active at 183 airports in 38 countries on five continents, and generated consolidated operating revenue of CHF 1.9 billion (EUR 1.2 billion or USD 1.7 billion) last year. Cargo 2000 is an industry initiative aiming at implementing a new quality management system for the worldwide air cargo industry. The objective is simple: to implement processes, backed by quality standards, that are measurable to improve the efficiency of air cargo. Cargo 2000 re-engineers the air cargo transportation scheme from shipper to consignee. Individual processes in the supply chain are reduced from 40 to just 19, cutting down on operational costs and enhancing customer service. More and more customers now choose Cargo 2000 companies among their preferred suppliers as it provides quality performance backed by reliable data. (c) Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation.
