The fire broke out in the Helsinki Airport restaurant early Sunday morning. The restaurant was closed at the time and there were no passengers or staff inside. The fire was quickly extinguished.

Some passenger areas were closed due to the smoke and check-in operations were placed on emergency notice for four hours.

Departure Halls 3 and 4 and part of the gate area, which had been closed, were re-opened at 10:00am. Emergency check-in procedures for morning flights were cancelled immediately and check-in operations proceeded normally.

Flights were back on-time by late morning and the fire caused no additional delays for Sunday flights. Approximately half of the 45 scheduled flights were delayed between 6:00 and 10:00 Sunday morning. The delays ranged from ten minutes to one hour.
