International travel stronger in July than domestic
LFV’s traffic statistics July CHAIRMAN’S LETTER

2.1 million passengers flew from LFV Airports during July 2009. This is a drop of 10% compared with the same month in 2008. International passenger numbers were down 8% to 1.5 million and 613,000 people travelled on domestic services which is 13% fewer.

For the period January-July 2009 the number of passengers at LFV Airports was 13% less than for the same period last year. The number of international passengers was 12% fewer and domestic 16%.

-International travel in July has developed reasonably well despite the economic slowdown. However, quite a number of the domestic routes are still showing a considerable drop in passenger numbers. The overall picture of July does perhaps indicate a certain stabilisation compared with the dramatic drop in passenger numbers recorded in the spring, says Henrik Littorin responsible for worldwide analyses at the LFV Group.

The Airports within the LFV Group which recorded an increase in passenger numbers were Stockholm-Bromma, Umeå City and Ängelholm Helsingborg. All three noted a 1% increase in the total number of passengers at their respective airports during July compared with the same month in 2008. Göteborg Landvetter recorded a drop of 16% and Stockholm-Arlanda noted 9% fewer passengers.

The total number of scheduled and charter landings were down 13% in July 2009 compared with July 2008. International landings were 15% fewer and domestic 10%. The accumulated number of landings for the period January-July 2009 was 110,700 which is 12% fewer.

-The drop in passenger numbers is less than the number of landings indicating an increase in cabin factor which is positive for the airlines in the present day economic situation, says Henrik Littorin.
