Air Berlin increases revenue in July
Fleet capacity utilization at the previous year's level Air Berlin, Germany's second-largest airline company, was able to increase its revenue per available seat kilometer for July 2009.

With 6.20 Eurocents, revenue per available seat kilometer was 5.9 percent higher than that of the corresponding month of the previous year (July 2008: 5.86 Eurocents). At 83.4 percent, fleet capacity utilization remained approximately at the previous year's level (+ 0.1 percentage points). Due to a targeted capacity reduction of 3.4 percent, the number of passengers transported in July 2009 declined by 3.3 percent to 2,811,025 (July 2008: 2,908,018).

For the period from January to July 2009, a total of 15,525,847 passengers traveled on Air Berlin's flight routes, i.e. a decline of 5.3 percent in comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year (January-July 2008: 16,403,054). This decline is in part due to the accumulated capacity decreasing by 3 percent during the first seven months of the year. For the same time period, fleet capacity utilization decreased from 78.1 to 76.3 percent (-1.8 per-centage points).
