The Irish Aviation Authority July Traffic Statistics - Downward Trend Continues
The impact of the global downturn on the aviation industry continues to be felt with no sign of an upturn yet. Figures for traffic passing through Irish controlled airspace in July show another month of decline on the same month last year. These figures, as detailed below, come just a few days after the International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced international scheduled traffic results for June showing passenger demand declined 7.2% compared with June 2008 while freight demand was down 16.5%.

The July figures were as follows;

    * En route operations (over flights) were down -9% on July 2008.

    * North Atlantic HF communications were down almost -7% on the same month last year.

    * Commercial air traffic movements at the three State airports were down on July 2008 as follows Dublin -16%, Shannon -18% and Cork -26%.

January 2009 to the end of July 2009 showed the following cumulative trends;

    * En route flights, down by -8%

    * North Atlantic Communications, down by -8%

    * Dublin Commercial Terminal Movements, down by -14%

    * Cork Commercial Terminal Movements, down by -26%

    * Shannon Commercial Terminal Movements, down by -14%

    * Combined Commercial  movements for the three State airports were down -15%
