Airline celebrates 41 st destination from Leeds-Bradford with island's most famous sweet treat

The North’s leading leisure airline, Jet2.com , today served up a brand new destination for the region... in the shape of Yorkshire’s first ever direct service to the beautiful island of Madeira, from Leeds Bradford Airport.

Marking the launch, the low fare airline brought a touch of tea-room magic to the airport runway, as cabin crew served Jet2.com Managing Director Ian Doubtfire and Leeds Bradford’s Commercial Director, Tony Hallwood with a one-off Jet2.com aircraft-shaped Madeira cake... and a Yorkshire cuppa!

Flights to the picturesque Portuguese island are now on sale for summer 2011 from just £49.99 per person one way including taxes, departing from 14th February 2011 running right through to 31st October 2011. Meanwhile holidaymakers can also take advantage of great value packages with Jet2holidays from just £299 per person, for a 7 night 3 star break.

The brand new weekly flight is Yorkshire’s only direct scheduled service to the popular holiday haven and follows hot on the heels of Jet2.com's highly successful Manchester to Madeira route, which was launched earlier this year.

Ian Doubtfire , Managing Director of Jet2.com said: 'There is a lot more to Madeira than just its delicious cake! With beautiful weather, stunning scenery and so much to see and do, we are confident that the island will really captivate the region’s holidaymakers and are delighted to be offering Yorkshire's only direct service to the island. At Jet2.com we pride ourselves in offering a fantastic range of holiday destinations and Madeira, now our 41 st destination out of Leeds-Bradford airport, is a great addition to our friendly low fare schedule.'

Tony Hallwood and Ian Doubtfire eye up an air-craft sized Madeira cake at Leeds Bradford Airport today.

Meanwhile Tony Hallwood, Commercial Director of Leeds Bradford International Airport commented on the launch of the new route: “This is fantastic news for the people of Yorkshire – with a short flight time from Leeds Bradford Airport, holiday makers can be laying on Madeira’s stunning beaches or enjoying its beautiful scenery in just a matter of hours. I’m sure this will be a very successful addition to Jet2.com’s schedule and its great to see that flights run from February right through to the end of October ensuring the island is a strong autumn and winter sunshine hotspot too.”

With its favourable year-round climate, beautiful natural beaches, rugged coastlines, volcanic caves and breathtaking views, Madeira is expected to be one of the region’s most popular destinations for summer 2011. Also ideal for water sport enthusiasts, the island’s Atlantic location offers the perfect spot for diving, fishing, surfing, whale and dolphin spotting as well as one of Europe's first underwater nature reserves on the Garajau coastline.

Holidaymakers can also take advantage of Madeira’s capital, the cosmopolitan city of Funchal, which provides a host of shopping opportunities as well as bustling squares and an abundance of great restaurants serving up fantastic local cuisine.
