First bmibaby flight to Munich
Low cost airline bmibaby is celebrating its inaugural flight to Germany from East Midlands Airport. The new service to Munich launches today (17 September 2010) and is already over 80 per cent full.

The new route has been launched to coincide with the opening of the legendary Oktoberfest in Munich, the world famous beer festival which celebrates its 200th anniversary this year.

Upon arrival at Munich airport customers on board the first flight will be greeted by a Bavarian band and be given traditional gingerbread hearts.

This is the first of two new bmibaby services to Germany from East Midlands Airport. Flights to Cologne start on 31 October 2010.

Julian Carr, managing director, bmibaby, said:

“Our new service to Munich is already proving popular especially for those heading to Germany for Oktoberfest this weekend.

“We expect to carry over 27,000 passengers on this route over the winter period. In addition, at the end of October we will start our second service to Germany, with new flights to Cologne.

“We are the only low cost carrier flying from East Midlands Airport to Munich and Cologne, thereby offering even more new destinations to our customers from the Midlands region.”

Flights to Munich will operate on Sunday, Monday and Friday. Fares start from £24.99 one way including taxes.
