Vueling Airlines optimizes flight planning with IT from Lufthansa Systems
Vueling Airlines extends the cooperation with Lufthansa Systems to further optimize its flight planning. The Spanish airline will use Traffic Flow Restrictions (TFR), an add-on of the proven flight planning solution Lido/Flight.

With TFR, Vueling can plan its routes more efficiently and can reduce fuel costs. The tool can cut fuel consumption by up to two percent on certain flights.

Traffic flow restrictions are highly complex rules established by the aviation authorities to ensure smooth traffic flows. They also guarantee the optimal use of airspace and the safety of each flight. Examples of such rules include temporary restrictions for particular airways, aircraft types or altitudes. The TFR functionality of Lido/Flight is the first solution of its type to also cover partial restrictions on specific airways and suggest alternate routes. This makes it possible to combine route segments with maximum efficiency.

Vueling was founded in 2004 with a fleet of two Airbus A320 aircraft, four routes and the aim of offering excellent customer service at a very competitive price. Seven years later, Vueling will operate a 42-strong fleet of Airbus A320s during the summer season, serving 50 airports in 23 countries in Europe, North Africa and Middle East. Six of the airports where Vueling operates are permanent bases (Barcelona, Madrid, Sevilla, Malaga, Bilbao and Valencia). A seventh, Ibiza, is a summer base only. In 2011, Vueling will introduce two new international bases, Amsterdam and Toulouse, reflecting the focus on international growth.
