Finnair, which celebrates its 85th anniversary in 2008, took delivery of its 200th aircraft on 29-Mar-08. The 200th aircraft in Finnair’s fleet history is an Embraer 190. The 100th aircraft to Finnair’s fleet, in 1986, was an ATR42 propeller driven aircraft. The average age of Finnair’s European fleet is approximately four years.

Finnair Deputy CEO, Henrik Arle, said “The Embraers, which are smaller than the Airbus A320 family aircraft, are used on flights and routes with less demand. In terms of feeder flights for our Asian routes, it is important to be able to profitably offer more frequencies to more destinations. Capacity tailored to demand as well as the newest technology are also the best solution for the environment,”

The long haul fleet, serving Asian and North American destinations, is undergoing a process of renewal that will be complete in Spring 2010. In 2014, the first Airbus A350XWB family aircraft is due to join the fleet, with emissions as much as a third lower than the aircrafts currently used.

Finnair’s 200th aircraft belongs to the airline’s European fleet, which in addition to the Embraer 170s and 190s, includes Airbus A320 family aircrafts. Fiinair currently have seven Embraer 190. The latest aircraft delivered is the carrier’s eighth, with two more Embraer 190s arriving in 2009. Finnair has a fleet of ten 76-seat Embraer 170s.
