Ryanair renewed its guarantee of ‘no fuel surcharges ever’ as British Airways (BA) announced that it is to increase its unavoidable fuel surcharge by GBP15 to GBP79 per one-way flight. According to Ryanair, BA is buying fuel at USD40 less than current market rates and is 60% hedged at USD79 per barrel until the end of June.

Ryanair’s Head of Communications, Peter Sherrard, said “British Airways’ GBP79 fuel surcharge is more than twice the cost of Ryanair’s average fare of GBP30. There is no justification for imposing this price hike, which passengers cannot avoid, when BA is buying fuel for USD40 below current market rates.”
