Aer Lingus Group announced that it has now concluded a contract with Lufthansa Technik AG for components maintenance of its A320 and A330 Aircraft. Maintenance services under this new contract will commence from 01-Nov-08 and will be primarily provided in Germany.
The contract has been awarded for a ten year period, expiring in 2018 and includes an option for Aer Lingus to renegotiate terms at defined future dates in the event of changes in market pricing for engineering services during the contract period.
Aer Lingus Chief Executive, Mr Dermot Mannion, said “Following our recent announcement of the completion of our base maintenance contracts, the conclusion of component maintenance contract negotiations is a further important step towards achieving substantial savings in our maintenance costs. We anticipate that contracts for line maintenance and wheels and brakes maintenance can be concluded in the near future, which will enable us to deliver anticipated total savings on our maintenance costs in excess of EUR20 million in the first year and growing thereafter as our fleet expands.”
The entering into these contracts follows an extensive review of Aer Lingus' maintenance needs over a four-month period and was overseen by independent management consultants Oliver Wyman. The airline's decision was based on strict compliance criteria, including approval by EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency).
