Aer Lingus is to increase its long haul fuel surcharge on routes to the US, effective from 14-May-08. The increase is as a direct result of the record upsurge in the price of oil in recent weeks and the airline's rising fuel bill. No fuel surcharge is applied on any of the 82 short haul routes operated by Aer Lingus.

The fuel surcharge will increase on long haul flights to and from Ireland, as follows:

* Flights to/from New York/ Boston/ Washington will increase from $75/€50/£35 to $100/€65/£50 per sector

* Flights to/from Chicago will increase from $82/€50/£35 to $110/€65/£50 per sector.

* Flights to/from Orlando will increase from $90/€60/£45 to $110/€75/£60 per sector

* Flights to/from San Francisco and Los Angeles will rise from $99/€75/£55 to $120/€90/£70 per sector.

Enda Corneille, Aer Lingus Corporate Affairs Director, said, "The price of oil has risen to a record high in recent weeks. Today's increases in our surcharges reflect the continuing effect the high price of oil is having on our long haul operation. Aer Lingus will keep the level of the surcharges under constant review and make adjustments where appropriate"
