(XFN Asia) Austrian Airlines’ pursuit of a financial investor does not exclude the possibility of a strategic partnership with another carrier in the future, CEO, Alfred Oetsch, told the Austrian state broadcaster, ORF, in a radio interview.

"Further developments will show whether [a strategic partnership] will be necessary, given that the general business environment has changed dramatically," Mr Oetsch told ORF.

"It's definitely time to reconsider certain standpoints in light of the new situation," Mr Oetsch stated, who has previously advocated a "stand alone" policy for the carrier, added.

Austrian Airlines' annual general meeting on 07-May-08 approved the terms of a capital increase that would allow the Saudi-Austrian financial investor, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Issa Al Jaber, to take a 20% stake in the carrier.

However, Al Jaber has informed the carrier's principal shareholder, the Austrian state industrial holding OIAG, that he now seeks a blocking minority of 25% in exchange for his planned EUR150 million investment, according to the Viennese newspaper, Die Presse.
