Talks collapse with Saudi Arabian Investor

Austrian Airlines confirmed talks have collapsed with Saudi Arabian investor, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber (AFP, 13-May-08). Al Jaber was planning to take a 20% stake in the airline via a capital increase at EUR7.10/share, equating to an investment of EUR150 million.

According to Austrian Government-controlled OIAG, which has a 42.75% stake in Austrian Airlines, the talks collapsed as Jaber imposed “impossible conditions” on the agreement. Last week, Al Jaber threatened to pull out of the deal, after the airline posted an EBIT loss of EUR50.1 million in 1Q08 - much worse than expected. Al Jaber claimed to have been misinformed about the true state of the carrier's financial development when he signed a preliminary agreement on 03-Apr-08.
