(XFN Asia) The UK's Office of Fair Trading stated it is considering whether to accept undertakings by Air France-KLM in relation to its acquisition of regional carrier VLM Airlines.

Traffic rose by 2.6% on capacity up by 5.4%, with Apr-08 being the first month of the launch of the Summer program. The load factor stood at 80.0% (-2.3 points). The group carried 6.4 million passengers (+1.5%).

Boeing and Air France has reached a historic milestone with the delivery of Air France's 50th B777. The Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) is Air France’s 25th of that model type and joins a fleet of another 25 B777-200ERs that together comprise the core of the airline's long-haul fleet.

As a result of the rise in oil prices, Air France and KLM announced they are increasing their fuel surcharges, effective immediately. Air France will charge EUR2 per segment on domestic flights, EUR4 per segment on medium-haul flights and EUR10 per segment on long-haul flights. KLM will charge EUR2 per segment on medium-haul flights and EUR10 per segment on long-haul flights.

Air France-KLM stated it is pleased to hear of the announced merger of Delta and Northwest Airlines, adding that the merger further strengthens the coherence of its partnerships on the transatlantic market. Thanks to the anti-trust immunity proposed last week by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Air France-KLM is confident it can quickly build a global partnership between Delta, Northwest, KLM and Air France in the form of a joint venture offering a network with multiple hubs.

Air France and OnAir announced the launch of their first inflight mobile phone service. Air France will be trialling the service, which is the first to offer passengers the full range of mobile communications services, including voice, SMS and email. Air France and OnAir have been trialling the first international inflight mobile phone service since 17-Dec-07.

Delta Air Lines and Air France officially launched their JV agreement, leveraging the new EU-US Open Skies agreement, with three new trans-Atlantic routes connecting London-Heathrow to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
