British Airways is launching new shorthaul and longhaul routes from Heathrow from 29-Mar as part of the new summer season. The airline will start flights from Heathrow to the southern French city of Toulouse and Atlanta, the gateway to the Deep South in the US.

In Jan-09, passenger capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometres, was 2.6% below Jan-08. Traffic, measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres, fell by 1.3%. This resulted in a passenger load factor increase of 1.0 points versus last year, to 73.2%. Traffic comprised a 13.7% decrease in premium traffic and a 1.4% rise in non-premium traffic.

British Airways extended (23-Jan-09) its current sale offer for travel before the end of March. British Airways are offering discounts up to 24% off with lights to New York starting at GBP24.

British Airways unveiled (23-Jan-09) a new environmental target of halving net CO2 emissions by 2050. The target means that British Airways will reduce its net carbon output from 16 million tonnes in 2005 to eight million by mid-century.

Further economic weakness in January and the outlook for February and March combined with the fall in sterling, are impacting British Airways’ outlook for the year ended 31-Mar-09. Revenue guidance for the year remains unchanged as being up at least 4% year on year with yields benefiting from exchange more than offsetting volume declines. Traffic volumes remain in line with the market.

British Airways World Cargo has announced (14-Jan-09) the launch of a fourth daily Dubai flight, as part of its Winter schedule. The additional Boeing 777 service, which started on 02-Jan-09, increases cargo capacity in the region.
