This morning, Joachim Hunold, airberlin's CEO, announced that he intends to offer the Board of Directors his resignation from the office as CEO of the company as per 1 September 2011. Mr. Joachim Hunold would like to remain bound to the company for the future as a Non-Executive Director and recommends that Mr. Hartmut Mehdorn, who is already a member of the Board of Directors of the company, becomes his interim successor as CEO.

Starting 09 December 2011, Wizz Air, the largest low fare †low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, adds Eindhoven to its destinations from Riga International airport (RIX). The airline will offer the new Riga †Eindhoven service initially 2 times a week (Mondays and Fridays).

As of today the first Boeing 737-800 with the new engine type CFM56-7BE has been added to the airberlin fleet. At the same time the aircraft with the registration D-ABKW is also one of the first Boeing 737NG with the advanced engine technology delivered to a European airline.

In July 2011, airberlin welcomed 3,809,401 guests on board, i.e. 2.9 percent more than in the corresponding month of the previous year (July 2010: 3,700,971 passengers). Fleet capacity utilization for July increased by 3.3 percentage points, i.e. from 81.2 to 84.5 percent. As compared to July 2010, capacity was reduced by 1.1 percent.

FL Technics, an integrated aircraft maintenance and repair organization further expands its capabilities and signs its first contract with Wizz Air †the largest low-cost carrier in Central and Eastern Europe. FL Technics has been entrusted to provide maintenance services for the airline’s Airbus 320 at its newly opened base in Vilnius International Airport.

Pegasus Airlines and IZair, a 100 % subsidiary of Pegasus, will optimize their flight planning processes with Lido/Flight from Lufthansa Systems. The airlines and the IT provider recently signed a five-year contract covering the implementation of the solution.
