Sterling Airlines launched its ‘Hot Summer Holiday’ campaign on 03-Jun-08, on selected routes into Denmark, Sweden and Norway, with over 65,000 flights for under GBP47/EUR 68 one way inclusive of taxes and charges. The promotional fares are for bookings made between 03-Jun-08 to 09-Jun-08, and for travel between 03-Jun-08 and 31-Aug-08.

FINLAND : The Finnish pilots’ association, SLL, representing Finnair pilots rejected Finnair’s proposal for a collective labour agreement on 03-Jun-08, and announced that as industrial action it would begin a ban on overtime. No new negotiations have been scheduled.

In full agreement with all parties, Mr Philippe Vander Putten has decided to leave the management of Brussels Airlines. The Board appoints Michel Meyfroidt and Bernard Gustin as Managing Directors. The CEO and Managing Director of Brussels Airlines, Mr Philippe Vander Putten, has decided to withdraw from the daily management of the company due to divergences of view concerning the repartition of roles at the top of the company.

UNITED KINGDOM : (XFN Asia) The Head of easyJet’s German unit, John Kohlsatt, stated that high fuel prices will trigger a rash of airline bankruptcies, leaving only five major carriers in Europe, Several airlines in Europe will go out of business… theoretically, 50 are endangered.

American Airlines launched its first flight from the United States to Russia on 02-Jun-08. American Airlines, a founding member of the oneworld Alliance becomes the first US airline to operate directly out of Chicago O’Hare International Airport to Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport.

Monarch reported an 8.3% increase in May-08 traffic, as well as 1.9 ppts rise in passenger load factor to reach 81.3% for its scheduled services compared to the same period last year. Monarch also launched a new five-flights-a-week service from Manchester to Larnaca (Cyprus), as well as the re-introduction of flights from Birmingham, Gatwick and Manchester to Ibiza for the Summer season. Overall, for both scheduled and charter services, Monarch carried a total of 657,056 passengers during May 2008.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, together with Air France announced it has selected Enigma Inc’s Enigma 3C Revision Manager to improve maintenance for its fleet of aircraft. Revision Manager is the second Enigma product implemented by KLM adding on to the Enigma 3C Platform currently being used to deliver airline maintenance data to all of its overhaul and line-maintenance mechanics. KLM has reported a 10% reduction in maintenance department IT costs with Enigma 3C and the company expects Revision Manager to provide additional savings.

Delta Air Lines commenced non-stop service between Salt Lake City International Airport and Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport on 02-Jun-08. The flights, operating as part of Delta’s joint venture with SkyTeam partner, Air France, will be the first trans-Atlantic service offered by any airline from Salt Lake City and will be the only non-stop service operated by a US carrier between the Western United States and Paris. Delta will operate the daily service with a Boeing 767-300ER aircraft seating up to 216 passengers.

FINLAND : Finnair launched its non-stop flights to Seoul on 02-Jun-08. The inaugural flight departed from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport at 17:30. Seoul is Finnair’s eleventh destination in Asia. Finnair is the only airline operating non-stop from South Korea to Northern Europe. The flight time from Helsinki to Seoul is 8 hours and 55 minutes. The route completes Finnair’s Asian network and supports the important status of Helsinki-Vantaa Airport as a hub for traffic between Europe and Asia.
