Aeroflot and WTB 24 bank launched a new payment solution, on 02-Jun-08, to enable clients of Aeroflot to pay for their airline tickets via internet. With this project, a new payment gateway has been developed which authorises Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Diners Club credit cards via Aeroflot's internet site.

British Airways (BA) and Amadeus announced they were extending their existing relationship for another 10 years until 2017. The new agreement covers the entire IT Services relationship between British Airways and Amadeus, and is the continuation of the strategic arrangement which started in 2000 between the two companies, designed to provide British Airways with a 'new generation' technology platform for the management of passenger services.

Given the record price of oil, which currently exceeds USD130 per barrel and is expected to stay at this level for some time, Czech Airlines is increasing the fuel surcharge, commencing 01-Jun-08. The fuel surcharge will increase to EUR85 on the two long-haul flights to New York and on the seasonal flight to Toronto. On medium-haul flights, the surcharge differs according to the length of the route and the situation in individual markets. On average, it is in the range of EUR25.

The Russian airline's CEO, Valery Okulov, said, A year ago, stabilising the company was still an option. We suspect that is no longer the case.”

(XFN Asia) Alitalia's Board reportedly plans to appoint Intesa Sanpaolo SpA as its adviser for its relaunch. The Italian Government, which has a 49.9% stake in Alitalia, has already hired the bank as its adviser for the privatisation of Alitalia.

Air Canada launched its direct, daily service between Ottawa and Frankfurt, Germany, at 18:00 on 01-Jun-08 with B767-300 equipment.

As part of a programme to train aircraft crews, Sibir Airlines (the S7 Airlines brand), will receive two Thales full flight simulators for training pilots on aircrafts of the Airbus A320 family. Both flight simulators will be installed at S7 Training, the company’s own training centre located near Domodedovo International Airport.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced that as of 01-Jun-08, it will only issue e-tickets for its flights. The transition to 100% e-ticketing is in line with the airline industry’s goal of driving paper out of the ticket process.

BAA announced the appointment of a Managing Director for the new airports division, with responsibility for running six of BAAs seven UK airports, namely Gatwick, Stansted, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Southampton airports. Stephen Peat will join BAA on 01-Jul-08, from Amey, part of the Ferrovial Group.
