Tarom Romania Air Transport has achieved the first renewal of its IOSA registration at the end of a smooth preparation and audit process. Tarom was first audited under IOSA in May-06 and at the beginning of 2007 was listed on the IOSA registry as an IOSA registered airline. In Jan-08, Tarom was again audited for five days for its first renewal of their IOSA certificate.

From the end of May, Czech Airlines will connect Prague with the tourist centre of Heraklion, on the Greek island of Crete, with a twice weekly service. The departure times have been selected primarily to suit the tourist clientele.

In the light of the recent decision of SAS to discontinue the direct route between Tallinn and Stockholm, Estonian Air announced plans to increase frequencies between the two capitals to up to five daily flights.

Ryanair has condemned the latest train driver strike, which have again disrupted the journeys of thousands of rail passengers on CIE’s Corkâ€Dublin route. According to Ryanair, this is yet another example of the contempt which the public sector unions have for consumers, and why passengers can’t trust CIE’s train services.

(XFN Asia) Air Berlin Plc. stated it sold LTU plus, a service centre that was part of its holiday airline LTU, to focus on its core business of operating flights. LTU was sold to MIC GmbH, owned by Juergen Marbach, and to Intro Aviation GmbH, controlled by Rudolf Woehrl. No financial details were disclosed. Both Marbach and Woehrl are former shareholders of LTU, which was taken over by Air Berlin last year. LTU plus will continue to provide services to Air Berlin for at least two years.
Stockholm-Arlanda Airport announced plans to construct an additional cargo terminal, as Netherlands-based AST Holding expands its operations in Sweden. The terminal will be 5,700 sqm in size.

SWISS announced it is adopting a new seating concept for its intercontinental Business Class cabins. The new seats will be gradually installed throughout the SWISS long-haul fleet from early 2009 onwards, offering Business travellers a 'bed above the clouds' which will be fully reclinable and 2 m long, with an air-cushion feature that can be adjusted to individual needs.

On 06-May-08, Silverjet announced that on 02-May-08, Silverjet Aviation Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Silverjet, had entered into a GBP8.4 million loan facility agreement and that Silverjet had entered into a proposed GBP4.3 million subscription agreement with Viceroy Holdings LLC. On 02-May-08, Silverjet Aviation served a notice under the Loan Facility to drawdown approximately USD5.0 million. Silverjet has yet to receive the full drawdown.

Czech Airlines is planning direct flights between Prague and Florida, in the United States. The plan to introduce this new connection has been approved by the Airline’s Management Board, with the commencement of operations being conditioned on the cancellation of the visa requirement for Czech citizens, which is expected later this year.

As part of its long-term fleet-renewal programme, S7 Airlines has received two new Airbus A320 aircraft directly from the manufacturer in Toulouse, France on 21-May-08 and 23-May-08 under an operational leasing agreement with ILFC Company. The two new Airbus A320s are already being operated on S7 routes. The company will acquire six more new aircrafts of this type by the end of 2008.
