Gunnar Már Sigurfinnsson new Managing Director of Icelandair Cargo Gunnar Már Sigurfinnsson has been appointed Managing Director of Icelandair Cargo, replacing Pétur J. Eiríksson. Gunnar Már has been SVP Sales & Marketing for Icelandair for the past three years.

Birkir Hólm Guðnason new CEO of Icelandair Birkir Hólm Guðnason has been appointed CEO of Icelandair. Birkir has been with Icelandair for eight years and his latest position being the General Manager for Scandinavia. Björgólfur Jóhannsson, CEO of Icelandair Group, has also been acting CEO of Icelandair, but now steps down from that post and continues as CEO of the Group.

The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] and El Al Israel Airlines have completed an order for four 777-200ERs (Extended Range). The Israeli airline has secured options for two additional 777s and holds conversion rights for the 777-300ER, a larger version of the 777 with increased payload and range capability. The order is valued at $850 million at list prices.

BELFAST International Airport has welcomed the arrival of three new routes as Aer Lingus announced its winter schedule for 2008/09. Munich, Milan and Lanzarote have been added to the network out of Belfast bringing to 34, the number of direct scheduled international destinations available from the international airport.

SWISS inaugurated its new daily service between Switzerland and Shanghai on 09-May-08, when flight LX 188 departed from Zurich at 13:05 operated by an Airbus A340. The passengers aboard the first flight included Swiss Federal Councillor and Minister for Economic Affairs Doris Leuthard. The inaugural ceremony in Zurich prior to departure was attended by H.E. Dong Jinyi, China's Ambassador to Switzerland, Thomas E. Kern, CEO of airport operator, Unique, and Rolf P. Jetzer, Chairman of the Board of Swiss International Air Lines. The flight's boarding was formally opened by SWISS CEO, Christoph Franz, together with Federal Councillor Leuthard.

(XFN Asia) Austrian Airlines’ pursuit of a financial investor does not exclude the possibility of a strategic partnership with another carrier in the future, CEO, Alfred Oetsch, told the Austrian state broadcaster, ORF, in a radio interview.

Aviapartner Handling announced it has signed a major contract with Air One for the provision of full handling services at Milan Malpensa. The contract, effective since 30-Mar-08 for ramp handling and as of 01-Jul-08 also for passenger services, covers approximately 130 weekly services (roughly 7,000 services p/a) and will double the volume at the station.
