GERMANY : Lufthansa is expanding the services it offers to customers flying to Brazil and launching code share flights in partnership with the Brazilian carrier TAM. From 18-Aug-08, Lufthansa and TAM passengers will be able to book flights operated jointly by either carrier between Frankfurt or Munich and São Paulo.

BRAZIL : TAM and Swiss International Air Lines, a member of the Star Alliance, signed a Memorandum of Understanding aiming to establish arrangements for cooperation to expand benefits offered to their passengers. The partnership involves the implementation of a codeshare agreement and the development of strategies for greater integration of TAM's Programa Fidelidade for frequent flyers with Miles & More.

Ethiopian Airlines has entered into a codeshare agreement with Brussels Airlines giving travellers better connectivity and a broad range of services between Europe and Africa. The new codeshare agreement, effective 17-Jun-08, will further strengthen Ethiopian’s flight network between Addis Ababa and Brussels. Ethiopian operates daily flights to Brussels with Boeing B767-300.

CHINA : HONG KONG (XFN-ASIA) - China Southern Airlines Co Ltd said it will take 75 pct of a cargo joint venture that it has agreed to set up on the mainland with with Air Bleu Ltd, a unit of the Air France-KLM Group.

Czech Airlines announced it will significantly expand its codesharing cooperation with American airline, Delta Air Lines. This will mean that the number of routes offered by Czech Airlines in the USA will eventually double. The newest routes to be offered by Czech Airlines, as part of its codesharing cooperation with Delta, will be to Hartford, Rochester, Buffalo, and Indianapolis, with transfers at airports in New York or Atlanta, beginning in June. In addition, Delta will also start offering under its own identifier, new flights through Czech Airlines in Europe, for example from Prague to Tbilisi, Thessaloniki, Cracow, and Larnaca. Czech Airlines clients can use the miles obtained through codeshare flights in their OK Plus frequent flyer programme.

US Airways' customers travelling on the airline's non-stop flight from its international gateway hub at Philadelphia International Airport to Zurich will now be able to enjoy convenient connections to ten European destinations through a codeshare agreement with Swiss International Air Lines. Swiss customers will also benefit from the codeshare agreement with the LX code being added to US Airways' Philadelphia-Zurich route.

FRANCE : Air France-KLM stated it is pleased to hear of the announced merger of Delta and Northwest Airlines, adding that the merger further strengthens the coherence of its partnerships on the transatlantic market. Thanks to the anti-trust immunity proposed last week by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Air France-KLM is confident it can quickly build a global partnership between Delta, Northwest, KLM and Air France in the form of a joint venture offering a network with multiple hubs.

IRELAND : Aer Lingus entered into a codeshare agreement with United Airlines on 08-Apr-08, enabling booking on each other's flights from 01-Nov-08. The codeshare agreement was signed by Aer Lingus CEO, Dermot Mannion, and United Airlines CEO, Glenn Tilton, in Chicago.

INDIA : Czech Airlines has signed an agreement with Air India to extend the lease of an Airbus A310 aircraft and crew for another year. Under the agreement, Czech Airlines will provide Air India with the A310 aircraft and a crew, comprising two pilots and a head cabin attendant, including insurance and technical maintenance.

FRANCE : Delta Air Lines and Air France officially launched their JV agreement, leveraging the new EU-US Open Skies agreement, with three new trans-Atlantic routes connecting London-Heathrow to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

Czech Airlines launched another code-share cooperation with its new partner, China Airlines, offering connection between Czech Republic and Taiwan. Czech Airlines and China Airlines commenced code-shared cooperation on the Prague-Taipei route, with a transfer in Frankfurt on 30-Mar-08. The cooperation also allowed both carrier’s passengers’ miles credited in their frequent flyer programme account even for flights flown with the partner airline, and can use reward tickets on all of the scheduled flights of both carrier.
