Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has won a share of an order from Turkish Airlines (THY), the national carrier of Turkey, for V2500 engines to power 20 firm and 10 option Airbus A320 family aircraft. The order is worth up to $170 million to Rolls-Royce.

The Boeing Company and Turkish Airlines have signed an order for five Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) airplanes valued at USD1.36 billion at current list prices. This is the first time Turkish Airlines has purchased new 777s directly from Boeing.

Turkish Airlines has increased service between Amman and Istanbul as part of their route expansion program. Came into effect with their summer schedule which was announced earlier this month, the Turkish national carrier now operates 14 flights per week to Jordan, compared to the previous schedule of 11 flights per week.

Turkish Airlines launched a new direct service between Istanbul and Birmingham on 15-Dec-08. The airline operates either an Airbus A320 or Boeing 737 aircraft on the route with a cargo payload of up to 2,000 kilos per flight. Flights depart the UK Midlands airport every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Turkish Airlines announced it achieved a record high net operating profit of USD420 million for FY07. Due to the fall of foreign exchange rate, net profit increased by 80%, to USD224 million. Operating revenue increased by 30% to USD3.670 million. 76% of scheduled revenue was from international traffic and 24% was from domestic traffic. In the operating costs, fuel cost’s portion is the same with previous year at 28% and the second important cost item, personnel cost is 24%.
