UNITED KINGDOM : Virgin Atlantic is pleased to announce that it will be opening a new customer service operation in Swansea in September 2010. The move will create more than 200 jobs in the area over the next two years. The new customer service centre will run in conjunction with Virgin Atlantic’s existing operation in Crawley West Sussex. UNITED KINGDOM : LSG Sky Chefs announced today that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Virgin Atlantic Airways for an extensive range of its products and services. The new contracts, which would commence 1 June 2010, cover UK in-flight catering as well as logistics, product supply and operational support services.

UNITED KINGDOM : Virgin Atlantic Airways, has bought six A330-300 long-range aircraft from Airbus, and is leasing a further four from AerCap. The contract was formally completed on December 30th, 2009, following an initial announcement earlier in June.

UNITED KINGDOM : AerCap Holdings announced (23-Jun-2009) that it has signed letters of intent with Virgin Atlantic Airways for the purchase and leaseback of six Airbus A330-300s that Virgin Atlantic has on order with Airbus. In addition, AerCap will lease four Airbus A330-300 aircraft to Virgin Atlantic from its own A330 order.

UNITED KINGDOM : Virgin Atlantic announced (06-Mar-09) it has appointed Steve Griffiths as its new Chief Operating Officer. Steve replaces Lyell Strambi, who returned to Australia at the end of last year. Steve Griffiths is currently the Director of Engineering for Virgin Atlantic and is responsible for all aspects of aircraft engineering and maintenance. His new role as COO will encompass Engineering, Operations, Airports, Cabin Crew, Product and Cargo.

UNITED KINGDOM : Virgin Atlantic has launched (25-Feb-09) new round-the-world fares from London Heathrow. Passengers will be offered two ticket options for their round-the-world trip - ‘Virgin Global East’ and ‘Virgin Global West’. The ‘Virgin Global East’ option takes passengers from Heathrow to Hong Kong and then onto Sydney with Virgin Atlantic, from Sydney to Los Angeles with V Australia, returning from Los Angeles to London with Virgin Atlantic. The ‘Virgin Global West’ option takes passengers from London Heathrow to Los Angeles with Virgin Atlantic, then onto Sydney with V Australia, from Sydney to Hong Kong and then back to London with Virgin Atlantic.

UNITED KINGDOM : Virgin Atlantic announced (18-Feb-09) two new senior international appointments in South Africa and Nigeria. Richard Myerscough starts this week as Country Manager for South Africa, based in Johannesburg. Richard will be responsible for the airline’s South African operation, which includes a daily service between Johannesburg and London Heathrow, and a seasonal service between London Heathrow and Cape Town from October through to April.

UNITED KINGDOM : Virgin Atlantic urged the European Commission to reject the planned virtual merger between BA and American Airlines. In an extensive document submitted to the European Commission competition authorities Virgin Atlantic says that BA and American Airlines, if allowed to combine, would use their market power to raise fares, adjust schedules to keep out competitors and cut off connecting feeder traffic to other carriers at Heathrow.

UNITED KINGDOM : Swissport UK confirmed it is to provide a new Central Load Planning service to Virgin Atlantic worldwide, under a new contract between the two businesses. The service will be operated by Swissport from mid-May-08 for all of Virgin Atlantic’s fleet on all services globally. Although Swissport provides a full ground handling service for Virgin Atlantic at London Gatwick (since 2004) and Manchester Airports, the contract covers Virgin Atlantic services at other UK airports and for aircraft in other countries. This is the first time that Swissport has provided its Central Load Planning skills to an entire airline.

UNITED KINGDOM : (XFN Asia) Virgin Atlantic is reportedly aiming to merge with BMI British Midlands and is pushing Deutsche Lufthansa AG, which holds a 29% in the carrier, to approve the deal. Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported, citing Virgin's external affairs and route development director Barry Humphreys.
