Two Flights Daily from Athens and Thessaloniki to Milan Malpensa Air One, has begun its own direct flights from Athens and Thessaloniki to Milan: from the Greek capital there will be two flights per day, while Thessaloniki will have one daily flight to Milan.

Air One has signed a firm order with Airbus for 12 A350-800s, plus 12 options, and 12 A330-200s, plus eight options. Air One will use these aircraft to develop a comprehensive long-haul route network, which will complement Air One’s domestic and European operations. With this contract, Air One now has a total of 24 widebody aircraft on order with Airbus (plus 20 options), as well a global agreement for 90 A320 aircraft of which 65 A320s are firm orders and the remaining 25 are to be gradually firmed up.

Air One announced it has reached a level of three million passengers carried since the beginning of 2008 on scheduled flights, 15.6% more than the same period last year. In 2007, the airline carried more than 7.5 million passengers; in 2006 the number was 6.3 million and in 2005 5.5 million.

(XFN Asia) EADS unit, Airbus, and Italy's Air One announced plans to sign an agreement on 04-Jun-08, for Airbus to supply long-range aircrafts to the expanding Italian carrier. Air One already has a long-term agreement with Airbus for the shorter range A320 aircraft, and previously airline officials said it was deciding on a supplier for its long-range expansion.

Air One confirmed it was still interested in the acquisition of Alitalia (Dow Jones, 22-May-08). Meanwhile, the European Commission announced it is yet to received information from the Italian government regarding the financing of Alitalia (Thomson Financial, 22-May-08).

Air One announced it is launching its first intercontinental flights between the US and Italy, with the launch of its non-stop flights from Boston and Chicago to Milan, the industrial and financial heart of Italy, as well as the point of departure to some of Northern Italy’s top destinations including Turin, Verona, Lake Como and the Alps.

Aviapartner Handling announced it has signed a major contract with Air One for the provision of full handling services at Milan Malpensa. The contract, effective since 30-Mar-08 for ramp handling and as of 01-Jul-08 also for passenger services, covers approximately 130 weekly services (roughly 7,000 services p/a) and will double the volume at the station.

(XFN Asia) Italy's Air One has accelerated its plan to launch operations at Milan's Malpensa Airport as Alitalia SpA downscales its operations at Malpensa by a reportedly 71%. Air One stated it will launch 138 services from Malpensa.
