FINLAND : As part of the Finnair Group's structural development, as of 1 December 2009 the Group's ground handling company Northport has agreed a transfer of business with the Barona Group in terms of its baggage and apron services at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. Around 490 employees currently working in these operations will transfer to the service of Barona under their present terms of employment.

When implemented, the lay-offs are expected to range from two weeks to three months, depending on the work situation of the different functions.

FINLAND : 20-Mar is the 85th anniversary of the first flight of Finnair, then Aero Oy - to Tallinn, Estonia. On 20-Mar-1924 a Junkers F 13 seaplane took off from the Katajanokka terminal in Helsinki. In its first year of operations, Aero carried 269 passengers.

The new flights will for the first time connect Finnair's Asian route network with the US, creating fast connections via Helsinki from Asian cities to New York and back, says Finnair's VP Network Strategy and Traffic Planning Petteri Kostermaa.

The broad letter of intent covers reciprocal use of services in aircraft maintenance activity. The component support agreement is the first actual agreement based on the letter of intent.

FINLAND : Finnair will open a route to Bergen commencing 22-May-09. The company will fly to Bergen daily, except on Wednesdays and Sundays. Finnair's Vice President Route Strategy and Traffic Planning Petteri Kostermaa said, “The main reason for the opening of a new summer route to Bergen is high tourism demand from Asia, particularly from Japan, directed at Norway's renowned fjord area. There is also interest in the new route from America and the southern European countries.”

FINLAND : Finnair launched its non-stop flights to Seoul on 02-Jun-08. The inaugural flight departed from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport at 17:30. Seoul is Finnair’s eleventh destination in Asia. Finnair is the only airline operating non-stop from South Korea to Northern Europe. The flight time from Helsinki to Seoul is 8 hours and 55 minutes. The route completes Finnair’s Asian network and supports the important status of Helsinki-Vantaa Airport as a hub for traffic between Europe and Asia.
