Lufthansa Technik and bmi have signed an agreement regarding services for more than 50 aircraft engines. According to the new five-year-contract, Lufthansa Technik will take care of all aspects of maintenance, repair and overhaul of the IAE V2500 engine type powering bmi's complete Airbus A320-series fleet.

Nigel Turner becomes Deputy Chairman. Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, currently Chief Executive Officer of India’s Jet Airways, has been appointed deputy Chief Executive Officer of British Midland PLC (bmi), with effect from 1 November 2009. On 1 December 2009, he will succeed Nigel Turner as Chief Executive Officer of bmi. Nigel Turner will then become Deputy Chairman, of the bmi Board. A smooth and very cooperative change at the top is therefore guaranteed.

Complimentary Chauffeur Drive for selected Business Class fares is available (04-Mar-09) on three additional bmi routes from London Heathrow. Six routes now offer the service, with a seventh, Kiev to follow later this month when the new route commences. Customers travelling on selected Business Class fares to Cairo, Tel Aviv and Beirut can now take advantage of this service, following the launch of Chauffeur Drive on routes to Moscow and Saudi Arabia last month.

Bmi has announced (26-Feb-09) that as of 22-May-009 it is increasing its services between Amman and London Heathrow from 7 to 10 flights per week. The addition of further flights is in recognition of Bmi's dedication to the region and an indicator of how important Jordan is to the airline. The move marks significant further investment on the part of Bmi in both Jordan and the wider Middle East region.

Blue1 expanded codeshare cooperation with British airline BMI from the beginning of February. All Blue1’s daily flights from Helsinki to Heathrow will carry also a BMI flight number. Correspondingly all BMI:s flights from Heathrow to Manchester, Lees/Bradford, Belfast, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dublin with connection to Blue1:s flights will carry a Blue1 flight number.

Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) confirmed (19-Feb-09) that bmi mainline is to cease operating the London Heathrow service from 28-March-2009. bmi carried 62,000 departing passengers on their 4 times daily service in 2008 and had in recent months reduced capacity on the route in response to current market conditions.

bmi commenced operating a six times weekly service to Riyadh - doubling the number of flights to Riyadh. bmi flights to Riyadh will now go onwards to Dammam on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and onwards to Jeddah on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

bmi has gained approval to serve the Ukrainian capital city of Kiev with five return flights a week. bmi has gained approval to commence the services following a scarce capacity hearing by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which awarded bmi the five extra services a week that were available following a recent agreement by the UK and Ukraine governments to allow more capacity. British Airways failed in its application for the five extra frequencies.

bmi is to give its Heathrow to Cairo and Amman routes a major boost with the introduction of Airbus A330 wide-bodied aircraft. The changes will come into effect early in spring 2009.
Both services were introduced in 2007 as part of a major route launch exercise at Heathrow that saw bmi commence services to 17 new destinations at the start of the winter 2007 programme.

Services from Riyadh to Heathrow will increase from three services a week to six, providing a daily service with the exception of Saturday. bmi, the only British airline operating to Saudi Arabia, announced that it is doubling the number of flights between Riyadh and London. Effective 14-Jan-09, bmi will depart from Riyadh six times a week, direct and non-stop to London Heathrow. Flights will operate every day with the exception of Fridays.
